Kennedy Sr. and a socialite and philanthropist mother, Rose Kennedy. She was the fourth child of her parents and had eight siblings.
Cavendish went to England during her father's terms as Ambassador. In 1939, the outbreak of World War II, the Kennedy family went back to the United States, but she did not want to go back as her time spent in Britain was very close to her heart. She was overruled by her father's decision and reconciled with her parents in the United States in fall 1939.
After returning home, she volunteered for the American Red Cross. She dropped out of school and started to work as a research assistant in 1941 for Frank Waldrop. Eventually, she worked with Inga Arvad, who authored Did You Happen to See..... and later was given her own columns where she evaluated films and plays. Unfortunately, in 1948, Cavendish was a victim of a plane crash in the south of France while going on a vacation and was claimed dead.
