Madonna Louise Ciccone is an American singer, songwriter, actress, humanitarian, author, businesswoman born on August 16, 1958, in Bay City Michigan, USA, to an engineer designer for General Motors and Chrysler father Silvio Anthony Ciccone, and mother Madonna Louise. Her mother died at the age of 30 due to breast cancer in 1963. Together she has six siblings and two half-siblings.

Madonna began her professional career when she moved to New York to pursue a career in modern dance. After being a drummer, guitarist, and vocalist for the rock bands Emmy and Breakfast Club, she was signed by Sire Records in 1982 and released her debut album the following year. She has numerous global successful best selling albums including Like a Virgin in 1984, True Blue in 1986, Ray of Light in 1998, Confessions on a Dance Floor in 2005 and more.
