Comăneci is one of the most famous gymnasts in the world and is credited with popularizing the globe-wide sport. In 2000, the Laureus World Sports Academy named her as one of the 20th-century athletes.
Nadia Comaneci was born in Onesti, Romania, on 12 November 1961. The name of her father was Gheorghe, and the name of her mother was Stefania.
With a younger brother, Nadia grew up. Her parents had no such good relationship, so in 1970 the couple split. She and her mother and younger brother continued to live with her.
She was engaged in 1994 with American gymnast, former Olympic gold medalist Bart Conner. The two married an old presidential palace at an Orthodox church in Bucharest, Romania, in 1996 and hosted a grand reception.
In 2006, their only son, Dylan Paul Conner, was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, by the gold medalist couple.
